There are a few things you can do to ensure your mail piece qualifies for the best rate possible...
Where Should I Leave Space For The Address?
The Post Office has a very specific place for the address on your mail piece. We have prepared a template for you that you can use to ensure you leave enough room for us to print your address and barcode.
To save the most money and time in the production and distribution of your mail piece:
- For a single, letter-folded piece ensure that your address is on the panel with the fold opening UP
- For a single folded booklet (like an 11x17 brochure folded to 8.5x11) place the address on the back panel so the the folded edge of the book feeds first.
- For booklet that is folded twice (like an 11x17 booklet folded twice to 5.5x8.5) place the address in the top half of the back panel so the folded edge of the book feeds first with the fold opening UP.
We are currently creating some images for this web site to describe betterthis, but please call us at 479-3831 in the mean time.
What Size Can My Mail Piece Be?
Size is dependent on how much you are willing to spend on postage. Odd sized documents will get you noticed, but cost more to mail.
The rule of thumb from the Post Office is that the length divided by the height of your piece should be between 1.3 and 2.5. This is known as the "aspect ratio" of your mail piece.
The following final sizes are common and acceptable for automated mailing rates (18-20 cents each): 4.125x5.5", 5.5x8.5", 8.5x11"
